Kerrygold

History

Long time ago in the early sixties, May 17th 1961 to be precisely, the An Bord Bainne (Irish for the Irish Diary product category) was founded "to promote, encourage, support, coordinate and develop the export of milk and diary products."

A good idea asks for a good name. How was it possible to choose from more then sixty suggestions, only one name? But somehow we succeeded to short the list from sixty to six names: Buttercup, Shannon Gold, Leprechaun, Tub-o-gold, Golden Farm and, ofcourse, Kerrygold. The names were submitted to the board of An BOrd Bainne and after the decision was made, not only Kerrygold was introduced in 1962 to Ireland but also in the United Kingdom.

NDC & KERRYGOLD QUALITY MILK AWARDS

Every year we search with our partner, the Irish dairy council (NDC), for the best milk of Ireland. The Irish dairy farmers produce worlds finest milk from the happiest meadow cows and the NDC & Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards acknowledge and reward the best dairy products of the Irish republic. In 2015 the O'Sullivan of Goleen family from West Cork won the price in a though competition with 17.000 dairy farmers and 12 national finalists who fought for the title of Irish milkchampion and the coveted cup of the 'NDC & Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards'.
